It was a Hair Affair to Remember!

It was a hair affair! At an after-school session, Baker Middle School students had the chance to learn from professionals exactly how to care for and maintain their hair. Three local hair-care experts volunteered their time to teach students styling tips and tricks, healthy hair cire and DIY maintenance. The students walked away with a new knowledge base and a set of hair care products and supplies.

About 40 students attended the event, which also served as a way to help build confidence and improve attendance by empowering students. This was done through adult mentorship, affinity grouping, sharing stories, and teaching students about self-care to remove barriers that often get in the way of school attendance.

Thank you: Dr. Timmie R. Foster our local Hair Subject Matter Experts: Latoya Elle Ross, Coretha Steele, Cea'Ca Trent-Serano! The students gave great feedback and were assisted and affirmed because of your expertise and your stories!

Thank you: Chelsea Tornga Photography for these event photos!

Thank you: Mattice at Mattice Beauty Supply for putting our hair kits together!

Community Aunties attend 2024 Miss America / Miss America's Teen in Orlando, FL

Community Aunties took two teens to Miss America / Miss America's Teen to support our 2024 Washington delegates: Emily Hamilton, Miss Washington's Teen & Miss Washington, Vanessa Munson. It was a action-packed four days at Walt Disney’s Phillips Center & Univeral Studios. We attended Miss America's Teen Got Talent Showcase, Miss America's Teen and the SHEISMOTIVATED- daylong professional and personal development program. We got to meet Miss Alabama 2023, Brianna Burrell, who was so sweet and so nice to the nieces. We also met Kalyn Chapman James Miss Alabama 1993; she was delightful, and still has that “it factor”! The girls finally got their Crown Couture crown boxes.

Carrington Manous, Miss Cobb County's Teen! Remarkable young lady- she is only 15 and already a published author and rising star!

and TWO Miss Contestants to participate in Miss West Sound Scholarship Program & Pageant on August 19, 2023 at the Admiral Theater in Bremerton, WA.

"Going into  Miss West Sound as my first pageant definitely started this journey for me with a bang! I’ve learned a lot and ready to take on the next!”

Sophia, Miss West Sound - Miss Contestant #8

Our teen contestant Akialah challenged nearly every common preconceived notion of a pageant girl! Our anti-pink, scholar athlete pushed out of her comfort zone and made us proud competing in her first pageant. Akialah did not place but received a fitness award and is considering competing again next year!

"It was the transformation for me!"

Amanda Scott-Thomas, Community Aunties Founder

If you got it...AUNT IT!

Community Aunties are raising funds to sponsor young women that would like to participate in local pageants. The road to Miss America starts with pageants like Miss Pierce County Outstanding Teen & Miss West Sound Outstanding Teen Scholarship Programs. You can help us by donating today to Community Aunties. Funds will be used to prepare and provide access  to girls, specifically young ladies of color and any teen unable to engage due to lack of resources. It's all about the experience- pageantry is a strategic way for girls to develop leadership skills, discover their talents, learn to speak to social issues, step outside comfort zones and connect to an amazing network of dynamic women (the Aunties) and caring adults.
